2010 December 14

After a 19 hour labour on tuesday the 14th of december 2010 i gave birth to our beautiful 8 pound 2 ounce daughter imogen poppy hope. She was perfect but i knew there was a problem as she was not crying, no movements just very still, she was wisked away to the other side of the room to be resuscitated, as this failed to work a ventilator was put in place. She was taken away to the neo natal unit, to be cared for. I was able to go and see her around 3 hours later, she was coverd in all sorts of wires and tubes, she looked at me with her beautiful blue eyes as if to say whats going on mommy and daddy. She was eventually transfered to Heartlands hospital to a grade 1 intensive care unit for cooling treatment as they believed she had suffered brain damage during birth. We finally got to the hopital around 12pm and made our way to the NICU. Imogen was on a cooling mat, with wires coming from her belly button, a ventilator in place, tube in her nose, antibiotic drip in her hand, and pins in her head to monitor her brain activity. The doctor in charge of her care told us she had sufferd lack of oxygen at birth and the damage looked very bad, the monitor was showing a severely abnormal brain trace and she was unable to breathe on her own. He said the cooling will take place for 72 hours and then they would warm her back up and see if the cooling had prevented any more damage being done to her brain.
